Solar irrigation systems

Solar-powered irrigation, engineered for every acre of Kenyan farmland.

From a single-acre smallholder plot to a 100-acre commercial farm, Precifarm engineers and installs solar pumping systems sized to your land, your water demand, and your terrain.

The family of solar-pumping hardware Precifarm specifies for agricultural irrigation: stainless-steel submersible borehole pumps for varying borehole depth, surface centrifugal pumps for shallow lift and pressure boosting, dedicated solar pump controllers, and complete pump-set assemblies with motor and PV-direct drive.

What it is

Precision-engineered solar pumping for agricultural irrigation.

Submersible borehole pumps for boreholes of varying depth. Surface centrifugal pumps for shallow lift and pressure boosting. Solar pump controllers, PV-direct or hybrid with storage. Each deployment is sized against the farm's actual water requirement, head, and pump distance from source.

Every system is designed and quoted on a written site-assessment basis. The array, controller, pump, and storage match the load profile rather than a generic spec sheet.

Sizing range

From a single acre to a hundred-acre commercial parcel.

Smallholder

1 to 4 acres

Single-acre subsistence plots through to four-acre smallholdings. Typical configurations cover 1, 2, 3, and 4 acres on standard PV-direct or hybrid pumping architectures.

Mid-scale farms

5 to 45 acres

Cooperatives, schools, clinics with agricultural plots, and commercial smallholder consolidations. Pumping infrastructure paired with storage where evening or low-sun pumping is needed.

Commercial parcels

45 to 100+ acres

Commercial farms, agricultural estates, and large irrigation schemes. Engineered bespoke against the irrigation plan, water source profile, and crop schedule.

Hardware family

Submersible pumps, surface pumps, solar controllers, complete pump-sets.

The catalogue Precifarm specifies for agricultural irrigation. Brand and exact model selection follows site requirements (head, distance, daily volume, voltage) and Kenya-resident warranty support.

Submersible borehole pumps

Stainless-steel submersible pumps for boreholes from shallow domestic wells through to deep production boreholes. Sized to match the borehole yield, the static and dynamic water levels, and the target daily delivery volume.

Surface centrifugal pumps

Surface and centrifugal pumps for shallow lift from open water sources (rivers, ponds, surface tanks) and for pressure-boosting irrigation networks. Available across a range of flow rates and pressure ratings to match field-distribution networks.

Solar pump controllers

Dedicated solar pump controllers for both PV-direct and hybrid-with-storage architectures. Variable-frequency operation matches pump output to available solar irradiance, with dry-run protection, soft-start, and remote monitoring where specified.

Complete pump-set assemblies

Engineered pump-sets where the pump, motor, controller, and PV-direct drive are specified and commissioned as one assembly. Reduces field complexity and aligns warranty across the whole pumping line.

Why it works

The same engineering discipline applied to irrigation.

01 · Independence

Energy independence for the growing season.

Diesel costs and grid outages stop dictating irrigation cycles. The pump runs on sun, the storage carries it through cloud cover and evening watering, and the operating budget becomes predictable for the first time.

02 · Scalable

From smallholder to commercial, on one platform.

One engineering platform, sized from a one-acre subsistence plot to a hundred-acre commercial farm. Add solar capacity or storage as the farm grows; the pumping infrastructure does not have to be rebuilt.

03 · Site-engineered

Site-engineered, not catalogue-fit.

Every quote follows a written site assessment that measures water demand, head, and pump distance from source. The system matches the farm, not the spec sheet.

Frequently asked

Solar irrigation questions, answered.

How is the system sized for my farm?
Sizing follows a written site assessment. Our engineer measures your daily water requirement, the head (vertical lift) from the water source to the highest delivery point, the horizontal pump distance, the available solar irradiance at the site, and your peak irrigation hours. The array, controller, pump, and storage are then specified against those measurements rather than against a generic spec sheet.
What size of farm does this work for?
From a single-acre smallholder plot to commercial parcels over 100 acres. Standard configurations cover 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, and 45 acres. Larger commercial deployments are designed bespoke against the irrigation plan, water source, and crop schedule.
Is the pump included in the package?
For Starter and Family residential packages, the pump is not included by default. For Commercial-tier solar irrigation systems and the dedicated solar irrigation system line, the pump is part of the engineered scope. Submersible borehole pumps, surface centrifugal pumps, and solar pump controllers are all specified by us against the water source and head requirement.
What pump brands and types do you specify?
We specify stainless-steel submersible borehole pumps for boreholes of varying depth, surface centrifugal pumps for shallow lift and pressure boosting, and dedicated solar pump controllers (PV-direct or hybrid with storage). Brand selection follows availability, warranty support in Kenya, and the operating profile of the specific site.
Can I run the pump only on solar, or do I need storage?
PV-direct pumping (no battery) works well for daytime irrigation cycles where the water tank or reservoir is the storage medium. Where you need irrigation outside daylight hours, or you have variable demand through the day, we specify a hybrid configuration with lithium storage. The site assessment determines which is the right architecture for your operating profile.
What happens during cloudy days or low-sun periods?
PV-direct systems will pump at reduced rate during low irradiance and resume normal rate when the sun returns. Hybrid systems with storage continue to pump at full rate from battery during short cloud cover. For irrigation seasons that overlap with sustained low-sun periods, the engineering assessment sizes the storage accordingly.
How does the five-year service commitment work for irrigation?
Same as every other Precifarm system. The engineering crew that designs and installs your irrigation system services it through the next five years from the regional hub responsible for your area. Scheduled preventive maintenance, fault response, and warranty management are included.
